The Chinese heavy goods carrier Zhen Hua 27 from the ZPMC company has just arrived in Le Havre with 2 new gantry cranes for the port of Le Havre.The 234 m long by 44 m wide vessel was taken in charge this morning by pilots from the Le Havre-Antifer-Fécamp pilot station.

The two gantry cranes arrived at the Normandy terminal in Le Havre on Friday 8 November 2024. The gantry cranes are 100 metres high. Le Havre is the first port in the world to be equipped with them.

A total of nine giant gantry cranes [seven more will arrive from February 2025] for the Terminaux de Normandie (TNMSC) and the Terminal Porte Océane (TPO) at Port 2000 will complete the existing fleet. They are part of a €900 million investment plan orchestrated by TIL (the port subsidiary of the world’s number 1 container company MSC), the majority shareholder in both terminals.

Another innovation: these gantry cranes are equipped with electric motors for unloading container ships.

These latest-generation gantry cranes will be unloaded over a ten-day period starting next week.
