A conference meeting in Le Havre : “Port facing gigantism”

The station arranges a conference meeting in Le Havre. The topic is “Port facing gigantism”. With professionnals from Antwerpen, Panama and Le Havre, two aspects will be studied.

The first will tackle the big projects of maritime and harbour infrastructures. Speakers will present the «Deurganckdoksluis» lock plan of Antwerpen, the third locks of Panama canal design studies and the new infrastructure plan of Le Havre port.

The second will concern the ship’s evolution design and their handling. Speakers will describe maritime access of the Escaut river and Le Havre harbour, the transit through the locks of Antwerpen, Le Havre and Panama.

In a world looking for more efficiency, technology and safety, this meeting will enable each other to share their expert appraisement and their way of working in order to take up the challenge of gisgantism.

Delivery of the SAINTE CECILE launch.

The SAINTE CECILE launch will be delivered to the pilot station this week. Constructed by Bernard Shipyard of Locmiquélic, near Lorient, this launch is an elaborated version of the Orca, designed by architect Mr. Marchand, with inverted chines polyhedral stem. It is self-righting and unsinkable. This boat is the third in a series of the same type. It is crewed by 2 men and can carry 7 pilots.

Simulator: cooperation agreement signed between Le Havre port and the pilot station.

The port authorities and the pilot station of Le Havre have signed an agreement in view of a joint utilisation of the pilots’ new manoeuvring simulator. This partnership will add weight to the forthcoming port planning, whether it be the new lock, the enlargement of Port 2000 or the methane terminal in Antifer. Set up two months ago, this software allows the user to reconstruct a chosen environment with surprising realism.

Arrivé en décembre dernier, le nouvel hélicoptère Dauphin N3 de la station a été mis en service ce mois-ci. Capable d’atteindre 280 km/h, le Dauphin, bimoteur est équipé d’un nouveau dispositif d’hélitreuillage. La mission de ce nouvel engin demeure la mise à bord au moyen du treuil ou directement par appontage, du pilote à bord des navires en approche du Havre ou d’Antifer. En 2004, 10 % des mouvements sur rade du Havre ont été assurés par les airs, soit 1400 sorties.
