Laser tests at the François 1er lock
From May 25 to 29, laser tests were carried out at the François 1er lock. Realized by the company MARIMATECH in collaboration with the pilots of Le Havre and the staff of the Port of Le Havre, these tests were intended to verify that a laser can be used in addition to the on-board DGPS to make a doubt about the calculated position of the ship.
The principle is as follows: in the phase where the ship is in range of the laser (located on the ground), this one scans the environment and follows the ship, its target. The position of the ship is calculated and compared to that provided by the onboard DGPS. Doubt about the position provided by the latter can therefore be lifted.
